“In Liberal as in Heaven” is a series about living heavenly values right here in Liberal – at home, at work, in your neighborhood, at grocery stores and restaurants, while resting and competing. When Jesus taught his disciples to pray, part of that prayer was, “your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven”. Jesus spoke about the Kingdom of God more than any other subject during his ministry… Maybe it’s time we talked about it too!

Operation Haiti!
Since the summer of 2009 we have been going to Christian Light School in Port-au-Prince Haiti to help with the construction, electrical needs, building furniture, teaching, first aid courses, repairs, well just about everything. With over 300 students and 60 staff members, few or no other churches are making trips to meet these needs. We have partnered with Sherrie Fausey the director of CLS to be a big part of meeting these needs. The students who we have been working alongside of and teaching skills to, can only do so much. We go to be God’s hands and feet, doing the work to help the school function smoother. This also allows Sherrie and the staff to focus on the students, instead of the building.
For this year’s trip in July we already have a full list of projects (and it’s still growing). We prioritize the work, and dig in during the time we have there.

This year we’re hoping to replace the aging solar panels, of which 4 panels are broken. CLS on a good day receives only 4 hours of city electricity. On many days they receive much less than that, or none at all. We use 4 inverters and 4 battery packs. Normally at least one battery pack needs replaced each year. Funds for lumber are necessary to build desks, chairs, student dining tables, and benches. Repair or replace of the tin over the dining area. Several welding projects. And building a rain catchment system is part of the list for this year. We also take down tools and inverter parts to leave there so we have them year after year.

We use the funds that are available out of our foreign mission account, but that only goes so far. For the month of February the love offering envelopes will be out to help buy supplies for these projects.

If your interested in going, check your passport expiration date and contact Wayne Melanson for more information at 620-626-9326.

We will be hosting our Haiti Fundraiser dinner Sunday, February 26th after the morning service. Please be prepared to give as you can for these projects.
