Starting January 2nd, we will begin a 5 week message series called, “How to Know When You Grow”. We can measure heights, weight, IQ, reflexes, strength, blood pressure, and so much more to determine if we’re healthy/mentally physically. But what about spiritual growth? How do you measure that? Come be a part of this series on Sundays in January to find out!
Hey Church –
You’ve probably already heard that there are some changes coming regarding the staffing of our Kids Ministry. In the event that you haven’t heard, both Norma Jean Dodge, our Children’s Coordinator, and Nique Brown, our Nursery Coordinator, have prayerfully decided to step down from their respective positions effective December 31 this year. We’re incredibly grateful for their years of service and for the healthy way in which both ladies are pursuing this change! If you have any questions or concerns regarding the transition of Norma Jean or Nique, please take the time to seek these ladies out and talk to them directly.
As we look towards the future of our Kid’s Ministry here at First Southern Baptist Church, we will be pursuing a single, full time position for the role of Kid’s Coordinator (this position will include oversight of kids, birth – 5th grade). If you’re interested in this position, or know of someone who might be, check out the link below! If you have questions about the position, check out the link below! If you just want to be in the know about the details of this position, check out the link below!
In the meantime, we would greatly appreciate your continued prayers for wisdom and understanding as the Personnel Team is seeking God’s will regarding the individual who will fill this role.
Donovan and Lisa Batt will be leading a new parenting study starting this Sunday, January 23rd during the 11:00 class time called Engage in room 201/202. Everyone with kids of all ages in their life is welcome to attend!
Menu for Wednesday Night, January 26th is: Tater Tot Casserole, Salad, Vegetable & Dessert

Our next Quarterly Business Meeting will be on Sunday, January 30th at 5:00 PM. Anyone is welcome to come, all members are encouraged to come and help with the church business.
The tech team is looking for a person to work once a month helping run projection for both services. If you would be interested or have questions what all you will be doing, please contact Gary Classen at 620-629-0063.
CHURCHES GROW AND MULTIPLY IN CZECHIA
When Larry and Melissa Lewis and their family moved to Czechia in 2009 as IMB church planters, they knew they had a tough job ahead. Only 29% of the population acknowledges the existence of a god and less than 1% choose to follow Jesus. In fact, Czechia is well known for being the most irreligious country in Europe. But trusting God’s call, the Lewises came and began a Bible study in their home in the western Czech city of Plzeň. That Bible study outgrew their home, so they moved to a local community center. On the first Sunday in their new location, Daniel came. Daniel had been a pastor before but was new to the city and unsure how God wanted him to plug in. He heard about the Lewises work and was curious to meet them. That Bible study turned into what is today Mozaika, a vibrant Czech-speaking church that is planting other churches. As Mozaika emerged, God began multiplying the church. As members transitioned through life and moved away, the church didn’t say goodbye, but instead they sent them out and helped them begin Bible studies and churches in their new homes. For instance, Věra was a teen when she was baptized. A few years later she married and started her family in a smaller city. Daniel and the Lewises helped her and her husband start a work there. This little group has grown even through COVID-19 shutdowns, and a new IMB worker is appointed to join them by the end of the year to help with their burgeoning fellowship. This has happened five times in the last 10 years, and each time Daniel walks alongside those leaving and takes laypeople with him to help build up the new work. The result has been life changing. Mozaika members have caught this vision and are eager to see what God has next for them. So, what’s next for Mozaika? Larry and Daniel have begun a Bible training center for pastors, and they have ten church members going through the program. These members will be prepared to pastor in the next few years. They are praying for ten new places to start churches. Joining the vision to reaching the multitudes from every language, people, tribe and nation knowing and worshiping our Lord Jesus Christ. We can pray for the IMB missionaries and those whom they serve. Please financially give. Our goal for the Lottie Moon Offering is $2,000.
With a total on-sight crew of 15, we each made our different ways to First Baptist Church of Golden Meadows, Louisiana to help with the rebuilding process after the August 29 hurricane named Ida that made landfall near Port Fourchon, La. It was the second-most damaging hurricane to make landfall in the U.S. state of Louisiana on record. Sunday, January 9th we worshiped with the congregation and a rather large group of Amish men and women from Pennsylvania who were also part of the rebuilding process in that area. That afternoon we surveyed the homes we would be working on Monday, and for the rest of the week. Monday morning part of the crew started rewiring and rebuilding one particular home, while the crew I was on gutted a kitchen. That afternoon we were changed to another location that needed a roof. For the rest of the week we tore off the remaining shingles, added a waterproof membrane, and installed metal roofing. The home owner provided a trailer for us to load the old material. We were also part of several other simple repairs that were greatly needed by the homeowners. The other crews continued on with their house projects by completing the majority of the wiring and new service entrance. When the outside sheeting was complete the Amish group installed the siding all the way around the house. A lot was accomplished that week but so much more needs to be done. At each location we had the opportunity to meet the homeowners. While many of us gave an account as to why we were there, it was also pointed out that God loved us so much that He sacrificed his Son that we might live. We wanted to show that same love to the homeowners by helping with the rebuilding of their homes. Other truths were brought out as well. We took several opportunities to pray for the people we met and pray with them as well. A cook was part of the team so breakfast and suppers were prepared for us. Sandwich material was provided and a vast amount of snacks to round out our lunches. Several trailers were there with tools and supplies. There was also a shower trailer complete with a washer and dryer.
We will be making another trip to Golden Meadows February 5th to do more work. If interested contact Wayne Melanson 620-626-9326.
Replacing the electrical service and rewiring the house before putting up the walls. To add to the strength of the house Plywood is put up first, than drywall over that. The roofs were repaired first to mitigate any further damage from storms.
Anyone over 18 is allowed to go on the Sanctioned Southern Baptist Disaster Relief trips. Others can go with other groups.
Everyone is encouraged to go and be a part no matter what their skills are!
