Our Summer sermon series this year is, “He Really Said That?!”  We’ll take a look at some of the shocking statements Jesus made during his ministry. Statements like:
  • Anger = murder
  • Being maimed > continuing to sin
  • Unless you hate your family, you cannot be my disciple
These statements can be difficult to swallow in light of the kind, loving, Jesus that we prefer to envision.  However, Jesus really said this and a lot more. Check us out Sunday at 11 am to get to the bottom of Jesus’ shocking statements!

The Haiti Team is Headed Back!

Since 2009 we have been supporting Christian Light School in Port-au-Prince Haiti by completing new construction, teaching teachers, teaching first aid, building on to the school electrical system and building furniture.

With a large list of things to do that includes solar panel work, replacement of chair seats, repair of cabinets, relocate and install several water tanks, we are headed back.  It is our pleasure to support this school with over 325 students where they hear the word of God and receive two meals a day while learning and preparing for their futures. This ministry also includes the baby feeding program in the ravine, so those children will be healthy when they enter school.
The team is needing your help!  We are quite short on funds for this trip. You can give online for the Haiti Trip (mark it Haiti).   For the next two Sundays (10th & 17th) we will have the love offering envelopes out in support of repairs of the Christian Light School.

It was also requested to take baby formula with us to Haiti.  If you would like to help with this request, there will be a box by the church office for you to place the baby formula into to help the baby feeding program in the ravine.
Our next Quarterly Business Meeting will be on Sunday, July 31 at 5 PM in the worship center.

Everyone is welcome to come, all members are encouraged to come and help with the church business.
Bill Koehn Mission Offering

This offering also supports ministries on a year round basis such as Chad Clement-Mission OKC, reaching out to the inner city kids of Oklahoma City. OK.

His Eyes Are On The Sparrow
BY PASTOR CHAD CLEMENT
One of the conundrums of working with families living in poverty is how to have the greatest impact on an inherently transient community. I hate it when I see the house of one of the families we serve with all their possessions in a pile on the curb. It is a sure sign they have been evicted and more than likely moved to another part of town. It’s heartbreaking to build relationships with families only to watch them move away after a year or two. However, the bigger problem is what to preach to a hurting people group when your time together may be limited.

Dr. Steven Davey told a story of a military chaplain who was charged with training other chaplains to serve in battle. The chaplain would challenge his students to share their faith in under two minutes. He would tell them, “if you can’t do that, you’re making it too complicated.”

We try to keep it so simple that any child can understand the Gospel while also focusing on their long-term spiritual development. One strategy we have developed is to maintain a preaching calendar geared to the children and youth we serve. Each spring after Easter, we rotate through one of the Gospels until September so that any child who attends for one year will hear one of the Gospels preached entirely.

In the fall, we preach through a second New Testament book, and after the New year, we cover an Old Testament book. This winter, we preached through the book of Jeremiah. God’s commission to Jeremiah as a young man was to deliver a powerful, colorfully worded message of repentance to God’s people. In chapter after chapter, he calls them prostitutes, or lustful she-camels running around in heat, referring to their love of sin and idols.

After several weeks of sharing and explaining the inferno of God’s frustration with these sinful and idolatrous people, I began to ask God to confirm to me that He wanted me to continue soldiering on with this painful and challenging message of repentance. More and more, He began to show me that it was precisely what they needed to hear; it is exactly what the world needs to hear. Together, we were chipping away at the stony ground in all of our hearts.

The withering torrent of God’s anger with His people expressed through Jeremiah is our call today to be set apart from this sinful world. Turn away from false religion, turn away from the lusts of the flesh, turn away the world’s system of greed and self-indulgence so that we can shine with pure hearts for God’s Kingdom.

As a pastor who loves his people, I was excited to finally reach chapter twenty-nine this last Sunday. God sent a message of hope to His children in exile in Babylon; “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you,” declares the Lord.”

I told them how God promised to come and bring them home after seventy years, and He did exactly as He promised. Just like that promise, He has also promised to come back for us and bring us to a place where we will practice war no more, Jesus will be King, and we will be His people forever. So, as we head towards Easter, I look forward to sharing with them once again God’s greatest act of love towards us through the life and death of His Son Jesus and the good plans He has made for us as the object of His eternal love.

Our goal this year for the Bill Koehn offering is $2,000. Please prayerfully and sacrificially give to support our Bill Koehn Mission Offering and help reach out locally for Christ.

The Bridenstine Family

============================================================

Hello FSBC family!

Thanks so much for the continued newsletters!!!  Chris and I will be praying for VBS, children, staff, and workers.  We know that God’s Spirit will be ever present there, and may those who hear the messages have softened hearts and minds to accept Him into their hearts and lives.  May those who already are a part of God’s family be strengthened and renewed in their love and spirit for Jesus Christ.  Thank you, Jesus, for ALL THOSE INVOLVED in this ministry and the future of the many lives impacted.

Thank you, church, for continued prayers.  Chris is on another round of antibiotics and strong steroids, but God has been SO BEYOND WONDERFUL TO US!!!  He continues to bless us daily and Chris is able to continually share his faith with those God places before him.  He has been able to reconnect with former students, which is always a blessing and joy.  We both continue to grow in the love and knowledge of Jesus, and have been delighted with the ability to bring “light” to others here in Wichita.

We love and miss you all.  May God give you all protection, healing, comfort, love and joy on your journeys in life as you share God’s message of hope, love and forgiveness.  Whether here on this earth or our permanent home, we are assured that WE WILL SEE YOU ONCE AGAIN.
