Our Summer sermon series this year is, “He Really Said That?!”  We’ll take a look at some of the shocking statements Jesus made during his ministry. Statements like:
  • Anger = murder
  • Being maimed > continuing to sin
  • Unless you hate your family, you cannot be my disciple
These statements can be difficult to swallow in light of the kind, loving, Jesus that we prefer to envision.  However, Jesus really said this and a lot more. Check us out Sunday at 11 am to get to the bottom of Jesus’ shocking statements!
FSBC Ladies’ Legacy
“FINDING JESUS IN everyday MOMENTS”

 LAST CHANCE!

Ladies, our time to rewatch the simulcast speakers will expire on June 30.  Several of us have already enjoyed listening to both Jen Wilkin and Kelly Minter again.  We found that it was good to be reminded of the teaching we received on April 30.

This Sunday, June 26, we will first watch Jennifer Rothschild speak, and then we will watch Jackie Hill Perry, who wrapped up the simulcast day in such a dramatic way.

Jennifer Rothschild has an amazing life story.  She lost her sight at age 15, and “has experienced firsthand how God’s companionship gives her comfort and confidence in every season of her life.  Now more than 30 years later, as an author and speaker, she boldly and compassionately teaches women how to trust God in every season.”  She is a wife and mother, and also a noted pianist and vocalist.

To finish the simulcast, Jackie Hill Perry summarized the subject of GRACE in a delightful and engaging way.  She is a writer, poet, and artist, and has been featured in many publications.  “Since becoming a Christian in 2008, she has been compelled to use her speaking and teaching gifts to share the light of the gospel of God as authentically as she can.”  She is a wife and mother, including a baby boy born in January.

Please join us this Sunday, at 9:30 a.m. as we wrap up this short “rewatch series.”  We will meet in the Fireside Room.

“You can find Me in each moment, when you have eyes that see and ears that hear.  Ask My Spirit to sharpen your spiritual eyesight and hearing…Practice looking and listening for Me during quiet intervals.  Gradually you will find Me in more and more of your moments…”  –from Jesus Calling
Super Summer Camp is Monday, June 27th – Friday, July 1st in Salina.

Bill Koehn Mission Offering

Not only do we look forward to the Bill Koehn Mission Offering but also look forward to our summertime outreach events that are associated with this offering, and how God works through his workers who are reaching out into our community-being His hands and feet. We pray for the people we meet-that they would see the love of Christ, Him working in their lives, and accept Christ as their Lord and Savior.

This offering also supports ministries on a year round basis such as Rick & Connie Edgier-home missionaries to South Central CO., Chad Clement-Mission OKC, reaching out to the inner city kids of Oklahoma City, OK., Cindy Lyddon-Grace Place Pregnancy Care Center, offering support from a godly perspective for unplanned pregnancies, and Lisa Batt-Oklahoma area wide coordinator for FCA.
Lisa Batt has been busy with girls volleyball camp here in Liberal, Cross Point Camp in Kingston OK. And more camps coming up such as a golf camp the 27-29 where 40 youth are expected to attend. Along with event training they will receive lunch and a Bible lesson. All for God’s glory, helping lead people to a deeper relationship with Jesus.

Our goal this year for the Bill Koehn offering is $2,000. Please prayerfully and sacrificially give to support our Bill Koehn Mission Offering and help reach out locally for Christ.

Hey Church Family,
With summer just around the corner, our annual youth summer camp will be here soon.  Our hope this year is to take 70 campers (students and sponsors).  We are well on our way to this and we’re seeking out members of our church family to partner one to one with each of our campers in a program we call “Adopt-A-Camper”. Here’s what we are hoping for from each person who partners with us:

     1. A financial donation of any amount.  This donation will help defray the cost of camp for all of our students. All donations will be spread across all campers.
     2. A commitment to pray.  When you agree to adopt a camper you will be given a prayer band to remind you to pray for our campers in the week leading up to camp as well as during Super Summer.  I will additionally send out prayer prompts by text to help guide you on how to pray for our students.
     3. A commitment to encourage. As camp approaches you will be paired with a particular student.  You will receive a picture of them so you can put a name with a face. Using this we are hoping you can encourage your student before and after camp. Additionally I will provide addressed envelopes so you can send notes of encouragement to your student which they will receive while at Super Summer.
We are looking for 70 adopters, to cover every one of our campers, so chances are we need you! Would you prayerfully consider partnering with us?

Bill Koehn Mission Offering

Another ministry we support through this offering is Grace Place Pregnancy Care Center.

Dear Church Friends,
I am pleased to submit the Grace Place yearly update letter. Our mission is to offer compassion, hope and help to anyone facing an unplanned pregnancy. We offer free services including self-administered pregnancy tests, peer consultations, information about options, practical needs in our baby boutique, a support group, and online learn-to-earn classes. Classes involve prayer, a video, worksheet and spiritual application time.

Our ministry continues to grow. We continue to be a Certified Child Passenger Fitting station giving free car seats to parents who can’t afford them.

In 2021 we taught 70 different topics (60 in Spanish), had 633 client visits, 7 individuals volunteered 265 hours. Donations came into the boutique and went out to homes.

Our first goal is to reflect and share Christ’s love to/with everyone who enters our building. We don’t turn pregnant women or new moms away. The second goal is to reach the abortion minded woman who needs to hear the truth about abortion: how it affects the mother spiritually, socially, and physically and how the different methods of abortion affect the baby. The material we use is from Care-Net which is the largest Christian Crisis Pregnancy Resource agency in the USA. The material is vetted by doctors and carefully worded to share truth, yet avoid trauma. At every point, we ask the client if she wants to know more before we continue. We also use BrightCourse.com for our client and volunteer instruction. It is wonderful; and rather pricey. It was made possible through a 5 year grant.

Our Impact on Abortion: According to the Bureau of Vital Statistics there were 26 abortions attributed to Seward County residents in 2020. In 2021, 24 Seward residents had abortions. Before Grace Place opened I had watched the numbers steadily rise from 15 in 2016 to 31 in 2019. We are reaching some of the abortion minded women and they have chosen life.

Our Impact on Teen Pregnancy: SWMC delivered babies to mamas in 2021 from multiple counties. A large number of them are teen pregnancies, and we are finding these mamas are needing our services.

Grace Place is open two days a week and six hours each day. This schedule gives us 12 hours to work in the boutique (cleaning and preparing items), teach, visit with new clients, and create advertising. We are not yet reaching our main goal of touching each woman who is considering abortion or each teen who finds herself pregnant. The time is right to be open more hours, advertise in more places, and find more prayer partners.  The Run Baby Run event was well attended and we nearly doubled the previous year’s participants. Left over shirts are being shared with clients who wear them. The run is an awareness event.  Our next Fundraising Banquet will be on September 20. Enrique Franz will be the Emcee and the speaker will be Jeremy Harris. A few of our clients will share their stories and we will again have wonderful food from John Ross.

I would be happy to visit with you, your church missions group, or give a brief presentation at a meeting or service. Together we can make a difference! Thank you for being part of our ministry!

Blessings to you!
Cindi Lyddon, Director
Grace Place Pregnancy Care Center

Hello Church,
As you may or may not have heard, this past year the Southern Baptist Convention (which we are a part of) hired a third party group to investigate claims that as an entity the SBC has mishandled reports of abuse within our denomination. The report from that investigation was released this week and the findings are heartbreaking. While our church has not been part of this abuse, we mourn with those who have been abused at the hands of ministers and whose claims have been too often ignored. We are praying that this report will lead to change in how we respond and help. We wanted you to be informed of this situation so that if someone asks you about it you are not caught off guard.

Bill Koehn Mission Offering

Another ministry we support through this offering is Chad Clement-Mission OKC, reaching out to the inner city kids of Oklahoma City, OK.

Chad writes “Next week will mark the end of a great year of after school ministries as we transition to our summer calendar. Our first year of life skills classes was a huge success. Our students learn
to cook, sew, and turn pens and bowls on the lathe. They also took our Chevy project truck apart down to the engine block and rebuilt it from the frame up, including body work and paint.

Every Tuesday, they were served a meal, had a small group Bible study, then we bussed them to the warehouse for classes. Every Thursday, the kids and youth heard a lesson followed by recreation time. On the first Tuesday of every month, we planned a field trip to encourage the youth to invite their friends to church. Last month we had ice cream sundaes at Stars and Stripes Park on a perfect spring day. Their favorite field trip is coming over to our house, having a good meal, and playing kickball at the park across the street.

In January, we started preparing for our summer ministries in earnest. Our aging fleet of busses and vans are lightly used during the school year but are all critical transportation in the summer. Lucas and I have been fixing broken door handles, changing tires, and pulling motors to rebuild. This spring, we devoted every Monday and Wednesday to vehicle and building projects and are still racing to finish it before the summer.

This last week we cleared every non- summer related item out of the warehouse to make room for our lunch ministry. When summer comes, the crates will be ready to be filled, and the pallets of food will fill the warehouse and freezers. The vehicles will be prepared to be filled with children. The water slides will be mended, the rock wall will be inspected, and the circus tent ready to provide shade for crafts. The craft supply tubs will be filled of face paint, beads for bracelets, scissors, and reams of brightly colored paper. The missions’ teams are preparing to come from all over the region and praying for there week of working with the kids. The Bible lessons will be prepared, and the worship equipment will stand ready.
Soon the first day of lunches will come, and the popcorn makers will come alive. The coolers will be cleaned and ready for thousands of servings of corndogs, chicken nuggets, burritos, and pizza rolls. The busses will run full of our youth who have come to serve for the summer to deliver lunches. They will lead the mission teams out in the neighborhoods and apartments and show them where to go. The eyes of the children will light up as we knock on their doors to deliver the first lunches of the summer. Our staff and interns will have sign-up sheets for Bible clubs, and will start getting kids enrolled and ready for pickup.
Then it will happen; what we look forward to all year, the children will pour into the busses to come to church. They invite their friends, and soon we have 100 or more kids in the gym and the youth room. We open the Bible and begin to share the good news and forgiveness of the sins through Jesus Christ. At first, they just listen intently, then become involved in the Bible stories, both children and youth. Carefully we explain who Jesus is and why we need His forgiveness. Then each day, the lesson culminates in an invitation to respond to the good news of God’s grace.  In twenty years of full time ministry, I have had the opportunity of watching God change the lives of our precious children and it is through the power of the Gospel and through Jesus who is at the center of all we do.

As you can imagine when you start preparing 1,100 meals each morning and equip an army of staff and volunteers to take it across the city, the cost of ministry starts to rise. We trust God to provide, and we are praying to meet our June and July budget total of $90,000 for our summer ministry. I am so thankful for all the donors who quietly cheer us on and keep the wheels rolling on the busses. I look forward to reporting to you all the good things God has done this summer through Mission OKC”.

Our goal this year for the Bill Koehn offering is $2,000. Please prayerfully & sacrificially give to support our Mission Offering & help reach out locally for Christ.

If you would like to read the report in its entirety, you can click the link here.

Hey Church!

If you’re reading this post, this is for YOU!!
On Friday, May 20, we are asking EVERYONE who calls FSBC home to pray and fast with us! Here are the details:
  • What’s the purpose of a fast?
The simple purpose of fasting is to let the pangs of hunger remind you to pray. Fasting leaves you in a vulnerable state and when partnered with prayer, leads to greater dependence on God.
  • How long are we fasting and praying?
Sunup to Sundown (about 7am to 9pm)
  • What are we fasting from?
Usually fasting is geared towards abstaining from food. However, we understand that due to health issues, not everyone can fast for 14+ hours. If that’s you, you might consider fasting from social media, your phone, TV, news outlets, etc.
  • Why is FSBC Fasting and Praying?
We’re fasting and praying for the church at large, but very specifically, for our children’s ministry. We’re asking God for guidance as we continue the search for a Kids Minister, asking God to move mightily among our kids, and we’re asking for God to “send workers into the fields” – with the transition in leadership and summer vacations, we have several holes to fill within our volunteers for Nursery and Children’s Ministry.

At 6:30 that Friday evening, those who are available will gather for worship and prayer. We’ll praise God for his provisions, and pray together for His solutions. PLEASE put this on your calendar and make plans NOW to join us!

Amer & Vicky Safadi: The Gospel in Their Heart Language
Annie Armstrong Easter Offering

Amer and Vicki Safadi weren’t sure at first that Cincinnati was where God wanted them to plant a church. They’d been there before, just after leaving the Middle East, and it hadn’t been easy.
But then they met Travis Smalley, lead pastor of Lakota Hills Baptist Church, who said his church wanted to come alongside them. And then when the Safadis moved there from Milwaukee, God immediately began putting Arabic-speaking neighbors in their path in providential ways. Within three months of planting a church, they had 55 Arabic-speaking people from eight countries, and new people continue to come through its doors each week.
The livestream ministry they started during the COVID-19 pandemic now reaches Arabic Christians and non-believers around the world.

Prayer Requests
  • For the Safadis to have favor with the Arabic-speaking people they meet and for God to orchestrate those meetings.
  • For the Arabic church in Cincinnati to continue to grow in reaching its city and beyond.
This year’s goal to support missionaries working in North America (US, Canada, and their territories) through the NAMB (North American Mission Board) is $2,000.  Please join us for the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering!

Brianna McKinney: Showing Love to a Lonely City
Annie Armstrong Easter Offering

Brianna McKinney says for many people Denver is a lonely place. For community, they might go to a coffee shop where they’re surrounded by others — but they’re still alone.
And the chances are slim the gospel will make it into their personal space. The city only has one evangelical church for every 32,000 people. To put that in perspective, there’s one marijuana dispensary for every 2,000 people and one brewery for every 7,000.
But through the ministry center where Brianna serves as a journeyman, she and her teammates are seeing relationships built and people saved as they work alongside missionaries and church plants. They’re reaching out to a nearby refugee school, ministering to the homeless, mobilizing teams of student volunteers and doing food distribution to families.
This year, “the mission has moved forward,” Brianna said. “We are just in need of more laborers.”

Prayer Requests
  • For more workers to feel called to Denver to work alongside missionaries and expand their ministries.
  • For perseverance for Brianna and her team in Denver who are working to love their city well.
This year’s goal to support missionaries working in North America (US, Canada, and their territories) through the NAMB (North American Mission Board) is $2,000.  Please join us for the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering!
