Our series, Game Changers, continues this week as we focus on Faith in the lives of ordinary people!

Join us on Sunday at 9:30 AM or 11 AM as we will be doing church together from multiple locations!  We will be livestreaming our service just like we do every week.
Join us at www.fsbcliberal.com  OR on Facebook at FSBCLiberal.
End of summer church pool party on Friday, August 7th from 7 – 9 PM at Adventure Bay Waterpark.  T-shirts will need to be worn over your swimwear.  This will also be an event for those families that came to VBS.  Hot dogs, chips and water will be served.  Come and enjoy some fun with your family!!
                  Food Cupboard Needs

Our next food cupboard will be on Saturday, August 8 from 10 – 11:30 AM at the east entrance of the church.  Here are a few food items that we are needing before our next food cupboard date:
Jelly, Peanut Butter, Mac & Cheese, Hamburger Helper, Ramon Noodles.

You may bring these food items to the church.  You can also donate by marking your check or donation – Food Cupboard.  If you have any questions, call Cheryl Dreitz at 620-655-3548.  Thanks for your help with this ministry!
This 2020-2021 school year, FSBC  is going to adopt an area school. Cottonwood Elementary will be our adopted school. FSBC started collecting school supplies during VBS. Please help us fill up the black tub in the church foyer with school supplies. School supply suggestions may be found on this list. We would like to deliver the supplies before the first day of school so our last collection Sunday will be August 23.  Thank you for your support and please be on the lookout for our next event with our adopted school.

Cereal Box Collection

During VBS, our mission team asked our VBS families to bring cereal boxes for our food cupboard.  Please help us to bless the families that visit our food cupboard by providing them with cereal in the month of September. We will have the collection boxes in the foyer until August 23. This will allow our Food Cupboard Ministry to sort the cereal and prepare them for distribution.  Thank you in advance for your support. If you have any questions, please contact Cheryl Dreitz at cheryldreitz@yahoo.com.

AWANA…Join Our Team

Are you looking for a place to plug in at FSBC that would allow you to follow the Great Commission? Please consider joining the AWANA team this school year?

What is AWANA? AWANA is a Bible-based evangelism and discipleship program. At First Southern Baptist Church, we offer AWANA for ages 2 years through 5th grade. AWANA gives children the opportunity to know, love and serve Jesus, no matter their background, through music, Bible story, Bible memorization, and game time.  The great thing is you don’t have to excel at any of these things. What is most important is that you give your time and let God do the rest. 2 Cor 9:8.

What is the time commitment? AWANA, at FSBC, is offered on Wednesday nights from 6:10 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. beginning on August 26 and ending on April 28. To make it easier to serve, the church offers a Wednesday night meal, max $20 per family…$4 per child (3 years to 5th grade) and $5 per adult.  This is also a great time to fellowship and focus on sharing the Gospel and Jesus’ love.

The positions we have open are:

  • Communications (Take pics and put in a newsletter to send home with kids each night)

  • Cubbies Workers (preschoolers)

  •  Puggles Workers (toddlers)

  • Song Leaders

  • Sparks and T&T Book Leaders

  • Sparks and T&T Game Leaders

  • Sparks and T&T Listeners

You can find the responsibilities for these positions at http://fsbcliberal.com/volunteer-serve/#awana

If you would like to join the AWANA team, please register here. If you are not sure but want to know more about the AWANA program, please make plans to attend the AWANA Volunteer meeting at 6:10 p.m. on Wednesday, August 12, 2020, at FSBC in the Fellowship Hall. You may also speak to Doug Munsell, AWANA Director or Norma Jean Dodge, T&T Director/Children’s Ministry Coordinator. Jesus tells us the fields are “ripe for harvest.” John 4:35.

Please give prayerful consideration to this request and I hope you will consider joining the AWANA team.

Prayer for Deacons

The Deacon body has continued to meet since the pandemic.  Sometimes the meetings have occurred via Zoom but as restrictions have eased, we have met in person to pray for our pastor, his family and our church family.  Presently there are eight serving deacons.  The Deacon body doesn’t feel like that is sufficient to meet all that is required to serve effectively.  In the coming weeks you will be receiving a call for deacons. As we begin the steps necessary to do this, the Deacons are asking that you pray along for God’s direction as we move toward this call.  Presently, our  Deacons are:
  • Jim Dodge
  • Gary Classen
  • Jimmie Farr
  • Richard Isaacs
  • Steve McKee
  • David Short
  • Gary Staiger
  • Doug Werner
If you feel God nudging you to serve as a deacon but are concerned that you just don’t know enough about the Bible, please consider that a deacon is, above all else, a servant.  (Acts 6).   In fact the scriptural qualifications of a deacon found in 1 Timothy 3:8-13 focus on character and family life and not how many Bible verses you can quote from memory.  Please pray for God to bring to mind the men of our church who can fill this vital role.

If you should have any questions about deacons and what they do, please do not hesitate to contact any of the deacons named above.
Help Needed!

The church tech team needs help to run a camera or projection on Sunday mornings during the two church services (9:30 AM & 11:00 AM).
Please call or text Gary Classen at (620)629-0063 if you are interested.
Ladies’ Legacy—“Paths to Peace and Purpose”
      September 11 & 12, 2020  – – Webster Conference Center – Salina, KS.

Opening our Women’s Friendship Devotional this morning, I discovered Cheri Fuller’s theme for the next week, “Peace in an Uncertain World.”  She could have written that yesterday!  If you are like me, some days peace is a bit elusive, and on those days I often find that peace in Scripture and in the words of some of the “heroes of the faith.”

Today’s theme, “From Panic to Peace” reminded me again about the Scripture index cards that we made at our last retreat.  I have continued to daily write Scripture cards for myself, but haven’t shared them.  Cheri encouraged me to do that again more faithfully. Would you like to try it?

Another huge encouragement I find is being surprised by notations in my Bible that I have made year after year.  I’ve been using my main Bible since  1987, and it is a joy to find the Lord’s encouragement in it day after day.

Today’s Scripture:
“You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are
fixed in you!”  Isaiah 26:3

Today’s quote from a “hero of the faith”:
“Just as saving faith comes through hearing the gospel, so also the faith to trust God in adversity comes through the Word of God alone…Only from the Scriptures, applied to our hearts by the Holy Spirit, do we receive the grace to trust God when we are afraid.”—Jerry Bridges, author and speaker
