Hey Church!

Lottie Moon Mission Offering
Olga wanted to go to church for years, but her husband forbade it. He didn’t believe in God and didn’t want his family dabbling in a faith he understood to be false.

After Russia invaded Ukraine in the spring of 2022, Olga, her daughters and grandchildren fled and were welcomed at the border of Moldova by Christians from Dancu Baptist Church in Dancu, Moldova.

Moldova shares an eastern, southern and northern border with Ukraine and a western border with Romania. When news of the war emerged, the Moldovan Baptist Union, comprised of 400 churches, converted their buildings, summer camp facilities and children’s homes into shelters. Dancu Baptist Church sent buses to the border to meet refugees. The church created a welcoming environment by placing stuffed animals on beds for the children and having school supplies on hand. They provided WiFi, three home-cooked meals a day and counseling.

David and Shannon Brown serve with the International Mission Board and they, along with their home church, partner with and support the pastors of Dancu Baptist Church and the Moldovan Baptist Union in ministering to Ukrainian refugees. They’ve been impressed at the way Moldovan believers have embraced refugees like Olga.

Olga’s family found safety and family in Dancu Baptist Church.
Her grandchildren found freedom and safety within its walls. The emotion rose in her voice – strong and insistent, but also trembling – as she said, “They’ve surrounded us with love and care.  They are supporting us psychologically, emotionally and spiritually,” she continued.

The Browns recruited volunteer medical teams to meet the needs of refugees housed in Baptist churches, campgrounds and a medical clinic in the capital.

Olga called her husband to tell him how well the Baptists cared for them. She was astonished by his response. “Praise the Lord! That’s God’s grace. God is good and protected you,” he said. She never imagined she would hear these words leave her husband’s mouth.

She finally had what she waited so long for – the chance to go to church. After attending church on two Sundays, Olga and her daughter, Alexandra, committed their lives to Christ.

Olga and her family often read a children’s storybook Bible. The illustrations helped their understanding of the Bible stories. The children were more interested in reading the Bible than their school lessons, and they paid attention during the church services. They affectionately called the senior pastor “grandpa.”

“Did you listen to what grandpa said?” Olga asked after a service. “He said to love your neighbor,” they responded. “We came here through God’s grace, and we are in God’s grace here,” Olga said.

Please join us in sacrificially giving for this Lottie Moon Mission offering.

“Reaching the Nations Together” is this year’s theme for our Lottie Moon Christmas Offering.

Partnering with others to send God’s representatives throughout the world. The greatest problem facing humankind is not a natural disaster, a humanitarian crisis, or political instability. The greatest problem in the world is lostness.

Southern Baptists send IMB missionaries to be steadfastly present among those who have never heard the gospel — people in cities, people in hard-to-reach places, and people who are dispersed and displaced around the world. At the IMB, we believe that missionary presence cultivates gospel access, gospel belief, and church planting and multiplication. Gospel access that knows no geographic or social boundary. Gospel belief that results in lives transformed. Church planting and multiplication that leads to local ownership of God’s mission. God has made our purpose clear. Together, we seek to take the gospel to every nation, all tribes and peoples and languages. We give ourselves to this mission every day.

Please join us in sacrificially giving to meet our $2,000 goal for this offering.

Come to our fall teaching series called, “The Church Next Door”, a study of      1 Corinthians.
Whether or not we admit it, most churchgoers have a “church crush”: a church or ministry that we look at and think, “Wow.  Now, that’s how you do church.” The tendency to look at another church down the road or online and think it has to be better than our local church is more than common.  As we dive into 1 Corinthians, we will dispel the myth of the perfect church and help us find joy in being part of the family that makes up our home church.

Hey Church!

Many of you know that we are a part of a larger association of churches called the Western Kansas Baptist Association, led by Randy Caddell. What you may not know is that Randy is coming up on 20 years of dedicated service to churches in western Kansas, ours included.  To honor the 20 years of services, churches within the WKBA are working together to raise funds to send Randy and his wife, Vicki, on a SURPRISE, all expense paid 7-day cruise of the Hawaiian Islands. To make this a reality, a total of $10,000 needs to be raised. If this is something you’d like to help make happen, you can send your donation of any amount to:

Western Kansas Baptist Association
1202 A Street
Garden City, KS 678467
Please put “Randy’s Surprise” in the memo line.
Thank you, in advance, for helping make this surprise a reality!
Randy preached here at FSBC while we were without a pastor.

Many of you have taken the time to fill out our Fall Worship Survey.  Thank You for your input.  This Sunday, August 28th is the final day we will be receiving surveys.  Please be praying that God will lead us to the best plan for our worship services as we consider the results of the survey.  More than anything else, we want to honor God in our gatherings each week.  If you have not yet filled out the survey, you can do so by using the link below or picking up a paper copy from the office.  Thank you in advance for your participation!
Our Summer sermon series this year is, “He Really Said That?!”  We’ll take a look at some of the shocking statements Jesus made during his ministry. Statements like:
  • Anger = murder
  • Being maimed > continuing to sin
  • Unless you hate your family, you cannot be my disciple
These statements can be difficult to swallow in light of the kind, loving, Jesus that we prefer to envision.  However, Jesus really said this and a lot more. Check us out Sunday at 11 am to get to the bottom of Jesus’ shocking statements!
It is not too late!!
This year during the fall there will be rehearsal for the Christmas musical!  We will meet every Sunday evening from 5-6:30.  For grades K-8.  Rehearsal will be in Room 203-205 (children’s church room).  There are speaking parts and solos available for those who want them.  I am excited to work with the kids on this.  The link to sign up on church center is provided.
https://fsbcliberal.churchcenter.com/registrations/events/1410935

I am also looking for any adults who would want to help.  If you are interested in helping with the musical, please contact Alicia Collins at 620-391-7323.
Thanks!
TeamKID is coming back here at FSBC!  We are super excited to be offering TeamKID again starting Wednesday, September 7th!   TeamKID is designed for Kids in Discipleship!  It features Bible memory games and application of Bible truths, engaging missions videos and activities, and fun activity-based learning all while helping your kids grow to be more like Jesus.  If you have a child who is 3 years old (as of September 1st) through 5th grade, they are invited to come join us each Wednesday from 6:10-7:30 PM.  You can pre-register your kids by clicking here.
https://fsbcliberal.churchcenter.com/registrations/events/1396718

Women’s Bible Study is starting on Tuesday, September 13th at 9:30 AM in room 210.  If you are interested in this study, The Gospel of Mark,  please go by the welcome desk and sign up or call Shari Abbott at 620-655-6214 so we can get study books ordered.
Beginning Sunday, September 11, we’ll begin our fall teaching series called, “The Church Next Door”, a study of 1 Corinthians.
Small Groups here at FSBC Liberal encompass a few different types of groups.  We have Sunday School classes that meet weekly all year long, we have Community Groups that meet in homes on various evenings, and we have special Bible Study groups that will meet for a specified time to study something specific.
As we head into the Fall, we are excited by the idea that every person in our congregation would be involved in a small group of some sort!  Are you in a group? Would you consider hosting or leading a group?  Pastor Jeremy would love to talk to you about the groups we currently have or about starting a new group this fall!  Click the link for more information or talk to Pastor Jeremy.

Through the summer we have enjoyed spending our Sundays singing, praying, and studying together.  As we consider the plans for this fall, there are a couple of options we can pursue for our weekly times of worship.  We need some input from you, the congregation, to help us as we prayerfully consider the options. Would you please fill out our survey to let us know your preference?  You can find the survey by using the link below or picking up a paper copy from the office.  Thank you in advance for your participation!

Bill Koehn Mission Offering

The Bill Koehn Mission Offering represents so much in the way of local outreach  and  missions.  “Local”, meaning works within the continental U.S.   This offering also supports ministries on a year round basis such as Rick & Connie Ediger – home missionaries to South Central, CO., Chad Clement-Mission OKC, reaching out to the inner city kids of Oklahoma City, OK, Cindy Lyddon – Grace Place Pregnancy Care Center, offering support from a godly perspective for unplanned  pregnancies, and Lisa Batt – Oklahoma area wide coordinator for FCA.

This is the last Sunday for this offering.  Our goal this year for the Bill Koehn offering is $2,000. Please prayerfully and sacrificially give to support our Bill Koehn Mission Offering and help reach out locally for Christ.
Our next Quarterly Business Meeting will be today at 5 PM in the worship center.  Members of FSBC are encouraged to join us.

TEAM in Haiti

Please continue to keep Cindy Adams, Elizabeth Denoyer, and Karol McKee in your prayers this week and next week.  Cindy, along with Wayne Melanson and Sean Schroeder, is already at Christian Light School in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and Elizabeth and Karol, along with Jack Jacob, will join them this weekend.  Pray for the entire team, as they spend long days at the school repairing and maintaining the campus,  working alongside students and staff members, and encouraging Miss Sherrie and the Haitians who love Christian Light School.

Thank you for all your prayers for my granddaughter Kendi.  She is doing so much better and wanted to say thank you.  Her speech is so much better and she is doing therapy now.  We don’t know for sure if she will be able to go to college yet, so pray.  God has been so good and has answered prayers.  Thank you prayer warriors.

===========================================================

Dear Church Family,

The Haiti Team would like to thank FSBC for all your support.  We have received baby formula, pencils and crayons to give to Christian Light School. Thank you for the money gifts through the Haiti trip fund. This truly makes a difference on what we can accomplish while working at the school.

Please keep in prayer the Haiti Team, Cindy Adams, Sean Schroeder, Wayne Melanson, Karol McKee, Elizabeth Denoyer and Jack Jacob.  We want to represent our Lord well, that we have the stamina to carry out this work, the supply money will go far and the team remains safe while on the trip.
