July 22, 2021 Newsletter

*|MC:SUBJECT|*
Hey Church!
We believe that every time the body of Christ gathers is special. However Sunday is going to be special in a different way than normal. We want you all to know what is going on so that you can participate and invite friends to come and worship with us!

Sunday July 25th, we are inviting all of the families who brought their children to VBS to join us for a single service at 10:30 AM.  We will sing together as a church, the different age groups from VBS will share some of their songs with us, and Pastor Mark will share from God’s Word. It is going to be a great Sunday celebrating all that God did the previous week during VBS!

This Sunday looks different than normal and we are excited to worship with the children of FSBC and the community of Liberal!  See you on Sunday!

We’re beginning a BRAND NEW, 5 week sermon series in August called, “I’m In”! As we begin looking towards the launch of our in-home Community Groups in September, we will take the month of August to look at God’s plan for community and the part YOU play in making Biblical community a reality!

Destination Dig: Unearthing the Truth About Jesus

VBS 2021 is a wrap. At Destination Dig, kids unearthed more than just dirt. They discovered real-life archaeological finds that have helped to uncover the truth about Jesus. Stories from the Bible leaped off the pages as kids explored where Jesus walked and examined artifacts that brought the world of the Bible to life. As junior archaeologists, kids studied tangible pieces of the past to learn the truth about who Jesus is and why He came. Kids made crafts, played fun games, enjoyed tasty snacks, sang cool songs, and learned about missions.

We had 135 plus children in attendance throughout the week with over 95 volunteers sharing the Gospel and Jesus’ love. We also had 15 children decide to follow Jesus.

What a GREAT week! We have also invited the children and their families this Sunday for 10 am fellowship with donuts and 10:30 am Worship. We will also celebrate our mission project and see who gets pied in the face. Hope to see you there! Please visit with our visitors and invite them to come again!

Thank you all for your support and Prayers for VBS. Also, thank you to all our workers!

                                         Bill Koehn Mission Offering

Our local missions offering, “The Bill Koehn Missions Offering” is named after a former FSBC member who gave his life while serving at the Jubli Baptist hospital in Yemen. Bill and others were struck down by a Muslim militant.
Bill’s service to Christ lives on as we follow his lead and God’s teachings to reach others with the Gospel of Christ. Isaiah 49:6 says “And he said, It is a light thing that thou shouldest be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth.” KJV.
FSBC supports mission works and missionaries on a year round basis.
We are also planning our summer outreach events in order to reach our community with the Gospel. These events are June 25: Liberal Night Out, July 17: Liberal Bee Jay’s buy out, August 20-21: Rodeo, Sometime in September: Car Wash at Squeaky Clean, and October 29: Trunk or Treat for Cottonwood Elementary. Please plan to join us on these dates in making a difference in our community.
The Bill Koehn Missions Offering is used to support these mission works and others. Our goal this year is $2,000. Please consider giving sacrificially to help reach this goal.
LADIES!  It’s time to begin planning to attend this Priscilla Shirer event!  We hope to have a happy, excited group from Liberal make the trip to Wichita.  Think worship, music, Priscilla’s lively messages, visiting while traveling, and much more!

COMING QUICKLY!  There is a sign-up sheet at the Welcome Center for you to add information about travel plans to Wichita for this conference.  Even if you aren’t sure if you’ll be able to go, but are interested, please add your name.  We will contact you.

The SCHEDULE for the conference is located at the Welcome Center, as well as on the Ladies’ Legacy bulletin board in the hallway.

HOTEL information deadline will be August 6th, after which we will lose our group discount.  We have reserved 12 hotel rooms.  Double occupancy will be $55 per person.  You may have a room to yourself for $110.  We plan to purchase the box lunch provided for $15, rather than trying to fight the traffic to eat in a restaurant.

INFORMATION regarding COVID-19 is on the bulletin board.  It is recommended that we have a mask available, in case it is needed in stores or restaurants in Wichita.  We will be kept up to date from Sedgwick County Health Department.

What’s Your Story?
Have You Shared It?

All of June and July, we have been looking at Snapshots of changed lives in scripture.  The truth is, if you are a follower of Jesus, you have a changed life as well.  The story of that change is your testimony.

For the rest of the month, we are excited to invite you to share your story in a uniquely different way.  We want to help you use the website www.1millionstories.org as a way of sharing your unique story of God’s work in your life.  We will have a video booth set up and ready to record your video testimony for the next three weeks at FSBC.  If you would prefer to simply write your story we can help you with that as well.
Once your story is uploaded to the website, it will be assigned a story number which you can share with others so they can view/read your testimony online.  This is a unique tool you can use to share your story with anyone you are having a conversation with, be that conversation long or short.  We will have “story cards” printed with our church information, the 1million stories web address and a blank for you to fill in your story number.

In order to help these recording sessions flow smoothly, here are a few things to consider:
  1. Start by writing down your story.  While you don’t want to read your story to the camera, writing down what you want to share first can help you to organize your thoughts before coming to record.
    Consider your “before/how/after.”
    1. What was your life like before you met Jesus? How did you live? What characterized your life?
    2. How were you introduced to Jesus and what convinced you that you were a sinner in need of salvation?
    3. How has Jesus changed your life? What characterizes your life now that you have asked Jesus to be your Lord?
  2. Make sure that the Gospel is clear.  Focus on the Savior more than your sin.  Our stories should make God the hero.  He is the one who saves.
  3. Keep it short and simple.  Especially for a video testimony, shoot for 3-4 minutes.  If you are having a conversation with someone where you have more time and they are interested in hearing more, by all means keep sharing, but for this situation, brevity is our friend.
  4. Practice telling your story.  Ask a friend or family member if you could share your story with them. Practice increases confidence.
  5. Come prepared to video on a Sunday morning, or sign up for a time to come video during the week.  We want to make it as simple as possible for you to share.

We are excited to see how God will use your stories to grow His kingdom!
