Come to our fall teaching series called, “The Church Next Door”, a study of      1 Corinthians.
Whether or not we admit it, most churchgoers have a “church crush”: a church or ministry that we look at and think, “Wow.  Now, that’s how you do church.” The tendency to look at another church down the road or online and think it has to be better than our local church is more than common.  As we dive into 1 Corinthians, we will dispel the myth of the perfect church and help us find joy in being part of the family that makes up our home church.

Hey Church!

Many of you know that we are a part of a larger association of churches called the Western Kansas Baptist Association, led by Randy Caddell. What you may not know is that Randy is coming up on 20 years of dedicated service to churches in western Kansas, ours included.
To honor the 20 years of services, churches within the WKBA are working together to raise funds to send Randy and his wife, Vicki, on a SURPRISE, all expense paid 7-day cruise of the Hawaiian Islands. To make this a reality, a total of $10,000 needs to be raised. If this is something you’d like to help make happen, you can send your donation of any amount to:

Western Kansas Baptist Association
1202 A Street
Garden City, KS 678467
Please put “Randy’s Surprise” in the memo line.
Thank you, in advance, for helping make this surprise a reality!

Ladies’ Legacy Invites You!
“Back to Haiti Night”
Monday, September 19th

6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Join us as we hear from Cindy Adams, Elizabeth Denoyer, and Karol McKee.
They will tell us about their experiences from the recent FSBC Mission Trip to Haiti, where they worked at Christian Light School with Sherrie Fausey.

Be thinking of questions you would like to ask the ladies.  We all wonder about what their weeks in Port-au-Prince were like, and this is our opportunity to find out.

We will also have an opportunity to lend a hand to Sherrie by taking an offering to send a CD player, or more than one, and CDs of children singing.  She says these would be very helpful to the teachers at CLS.  We will be able to send them by way of Agape flights.

Please add your name to the sign-up sheet at the Welcome Center, so that we will order enough Dominos pizza for our meal!

Our Summer sermon series this year is, “He Really Said That?!”  We’ll take a look at some of the shocking statements Jesus made during his ministry. Statements like:
  • Anger = murder
  • Being maimed > continuing to sin
  • Unless you hate your family, you cannot be my disciple
These statements can be difficult to swallow in light of the kind, loving, Jesus that we prefer to envision.  However, Jesus really said this and a lot more. Check us out Sunday at 11 am to get to the bottom of Jesus’ shocking statements!

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this decision or the vote in general, please feel free to contact the church office to speak with one of our pastors – 620-624-0186
Thank you to all who took the time to participate in the survey.

KNCSB Women’s RENEW Conference
Webster Conference Center, Salina, KS
September 16 and 17

We recently received new information!
The conference will begin at 10:00 a.m. Friday, instead of the 1:00 p.m. time we previously had. This means that we would need to leave Liberal very early Friday morning (think 6:00 a.m.) or drive the day before.

The $78 registration for on-campus will include one night and five meals.  Off-campus (if staying in a hotel) $68 registration will include four meals.  We must send in our registrations no later than August 21st.

The conference will include a speaker, worship music, many workshops to choose from, and much more.  The beautifully renovated conference center is where our children and youth go for their summer camps.  Singing along with 400 other women is always a wonderful experience.  The worship and speakers are always inspiring.

If you would like more details, please phone Kathy Reimer at 620-624-0368,   e-mail her at
kathy.reimer1@gmail.com, or catch Kathy at the Welcome Center between Sunday School and Morning Worship.  She would love to try to answer your questions and encourage you to attend this conference!  In past years, groups of women from FSBC have traveled together to the conference and have always found it to be an uplifting experience.

As we head into the Fall, we are excited by the idea that every person in our congregation would be involved in a small group of some sort!  Are you in a group? Would you consider hosting or leading a group?  Pastor Jeremy would love to talk to you about the groups we currently have or about starting a new group this fall!  Click the link for more information or talk to Pastor Jeremy.

Dear Prayer Warriors,

We want to THANK YOU so much for your prayers for our summer ministry and my (Connie’s) health.  God has been at work in a mighty way!  After finding out about my cancer, we weren’t sure if we would be able to do our summer ministry.  But the cancer did not slow me down!  We helped at 2 weeks of youth camps and a weekend family camp, then 3 Vacation Bible Schools!  Although the evil one fought hard, God won the victory!!  18 accepted Christ!!!!  God used the testimony of my cancer as a vehicle to share the Gospel and to remind Christians (of all ages) that our God is still our Sovereign, Faithful, Loving, Omnipresent, and Omnipotent God!  Circumstances don’t change WHO our God IS!

On July 21st, I had my follow-up multi-disciplinary clinic with the doctors at UC Health.  The doctors said they would have been really happy if my injections had stopped the growth of the cancer…. BUT …not only did they stop the growth, they also slightly shrunk the tumor on my pancreas!  Not only is my cancer rare, but it is extremely rare and unusual for it to shrink!!!  I told the doctors that a lot of people were praying.  They said it was working!!  The surgeon said he didn’t want to put me through a major surgery to remove the tumor due to several cancer lesions on my liver.  He knew he wouldn’t be able to get all the liver lesions.  Therefore, at this point, they want me to continue taking the monthly shots (since they are working) and check back in 4 months (about December 1st).  We would appreciate your continued prayers for the tumor to continue to shrink and for God to remove the lesions on my liver!

Rejoicing,
Connie Ediger

Our Summer sermon series this year is, “He Really Said That?!”  We’ll take a look at some of the shocking statements Jesus made during his ministry. Statements like:
  • Anger = murder
  • Being maimed > continuing to sin
  • Unless you hate your family, you cannot be my disciple
These statements can be difficult to swallow in light of the kind, loving, Jesus that we prefer to envision.  However, Jesus really said this and a lot more. Check us out Sunday at 11 am to get to the bottom of Jesus’ shocking statements!
Bill Koehn Mission Offering

The Bill Koehn Mission Offering represents so much in the way of local outreach  and  missions.  “Local”, meaning works within the continental U.S.   This offering also supports ministries on a year round basis such as Rick & Connie Ediger – home missionaries to South Central, CO., Chad Clement-Mission OKC, reaching out to the inner city kids of Oklahoma City, OK, Cindy Lyddon – Grace Place Pregnancy Care Center, offering support from a godly perspective for unplanned  pregnancies, and Lisa Batt – Oklahoma area wide coordinator for FCA.

This is the last Sunday for this offering.  Our goal this year for the Bill Koehn offering is $2,000. Please prayerfully and sacrificially give to support our Bill Koehn Mission Offering and help reach out locally for Christ.
Our next Quarterly Business Meeting will be today at 5 PM in the worship center.  Members of FSBC are encouraged to join us.

TEAM in Haiti

Please continue to keep Cindy Adams, Elizabeth Denoyer, and Karol McKee in your prayers this week and next week.  Cindy, along with Wayne Melanson and Sean Schroeder, is already at Christian Light School in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and Elizabeth and Karol, along with Jack Jacob, will join them this weekend.  Pray for the entire team, as they spend long days at the school repairing and maintaining the campus,  working alongside students and staff members, and encouraging Miss Sherrie and the Haitians who love Christian Light School.

Dear Church Family,

The Haiti Team would like to thank FSBC for all your support.  We have received baby formula, pencils and crayons to give to Christian Light School. Thank you for the money gifts through the Haiti trip fund. This truly makes a difference on what we can accomplish while working at the school.

Please keep in prayer the Haiti Team, Cindy Adams, Sean Schroeder, Wayne Melanson, Karol McKee, Elizabeth Denoyer and Jack Jacob.  We want to represent our Lord well, that we have the stamina to carry out this work, the supply money will go far and the team remains safe while on the trip.

The Haiti Team is Headed Back!

Since 2009 we have been supporting Christian Light School in Port-au-Prince Haiti by completing new construction, teaching teachers, teaching first aid, building on to the school electrical system and building furniture.

With a large list of things to do that includes solar panel work, replacement of chair seats, repair of cabinets, relocate and install several water tanks, we are headed back.  It is our pleasure to support this school with over 325 students where they hear the word of God and receive two meals a day while learning and preparing for their futures. This ministry also includes the baby feeding program in the ravine, so those children will be healthy when they enter school.
The team is needing your help!

We are quite short on funds for this trip.  You can give online for the Haiti Trip or mark your check/envelope (“Haiti”).   On Sunday,  July 24th we will have the love offering envelopes out in support of repairs of the Christian Light School.  Thank you for your support!

Bill Koehn Mission Offering

Not only do we look forward to the Bill Kohen Mission Offering but also look forward to our summertime outreach events that are associated with this offering, and how God works through His workers who are reaching out into our community-being His hands and feet. We pray for the people we meet, that they would see the love of Christ, Him working in their lives, and accept Christ as their Lord and Savior.

This offering also supports ministries on a year round basis such as Rick & Connie Ediger, home missionaries to South Central CO, Chad Clement with Mission OKC, reaching out to the inner city kids of Oklahoma City, OK., Cindy Lyddon with Grace Place Pregnancy Care Center, offering support from a godly perspective for unplanned pregnancies, and Lisa Batt the Oklahoma area wide coordinator for FCA.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes
OK Panhandle/Southwest KS
Lisa Batt, Area Director
Our area ministry is growing at a God-like speed in the last year and a half since I have been on full-time staff with FCA.  My job has three main areas—
1) minister to coaches as they work to influence and encourage athletes
2) grow current FCA campus huddles
3) help start new campus huddles.

Over the last year and a half we have gone from 3 huddles in OK Panhandle and 2 huddles in Southwest KS to 10 Panhandle huddles and 5 Southwest KS huddles.  God has allowed me to have access to so many coaches where I am able to pray with them, encourage them, give them Bibles and Bible studies, and then in turn they bring me in to work with their teams with team building activities and chapel services. I have been able to serve coaches and athletes, present the gospel, lead Bible lessons, pray with teams, bring teambuilding activities, and much much more.  God continues to open schools and allow the love of Jesus to be shown in atmospheres that are typically shut off from the religious world.

This summer FCA will be as busy as ever!  We have a Volleyball Camp, Golf Camp, our Extreme Camp, 2 Leadership Camps, a Coaches Marriage Retreat, and a Coaches Clinic all taking place.  We will provide Bibles, lessons, and sport to so many area kids.

I am so grateful for the support of the Bill Koehn mission offering.  The finances help supply so much for this ministry.  On top of that our church mission team supplies a meal to the campers at Volleyball and Golf camp one day.  FCA’s vision is to see the world transformed by Jesus Christ through the influence of coaches and athletes.  By leading every coach and athlete into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and His church.  Thank you for helping us do this!

Our goal this year for the Bill Koehn offering is $2,000. Please prayerfully and sacrificially give to support our Bill Koehn Mission Offering and help reach out locally for Christ.

Bill Koehn Mission Offering

Rick and Connie are home missionaries to South Central Colorado. We support them on a year round basis. We’re following there July schedule, a few personal words, along with praise and prayer.

2 VBS’S + MEDICAL CLINIC!
July 2 – Travel home after Glade Park VBS
July 3-9 – Home, regroup and prepare for Cotopaxi VBS
July 8 – Lanreotide injection
July 10 – Attend church at Cotopaxi Community Church
July 11-15 – Cotopaxi VBS (This will be a daily 40-minute commute for us.)
July 17 – Church at our home church, Grace Church in Salida!!
July 18-22 – Home, regroup and prepare for last VBS
July 23 – Travel to Crowley, CO
July 24 – Church at Crowley Community Baptist Church
July 25-29 – Crowley VBS
July 30 – Travel home

The summer is planned. We obviously got interrupted during the first part of the year and have to make allowances for medical issues, but we are now in full “prep mode” for camp and VBS. We will still be dealing with road construction and delays on the western slope as we go to camp and VBS. This is the SAME construction we dealt with last year. We will try to do most of our travelling on the weekends when there are no closures, but that will not always work, necessitating a long detour to the north. Thankfully, at this time, the roads look clear for traveling east from home!

PRAYER REQUESTS
Connie’s Health – 1) For the medication to have the intended effect, to slow/stop the tumors from growing in her pancreas and liver.
2) For the scheduling of the multi- disciplinary medical clinic in July.
3) For positive news concerning having surgery to remove the tumors.
4) Continued finances to cover the medical expenses.
Pray for restful nights of sleep for body and mind and physical stamina as we continue to heal from all that has happened this year while entering another busy ministry season.
Safety in the many miles we will be travelling.
For Caleb (20) and Aubree (17) at home while we are gone.
For the salvation and spiritual growth of kids attending camp and/or VBS.
For our vehicle to sustain the many miles and not break down.

PRAISES
Connie’s Health – 1) Her medication is acting better than we expected with no nausea or injection site pain.
2) Her symptoms are staying at a minimum and tolerable.
3) God is continuing to supply the funds for the medical bills.
Rick had a cataract removed from his left eye and a tag (from a cataract removal on his right eye 11 years ago) removed. He is amazed and thankful to see much better now!
With help from several people, the Yukon is MOSTLY free of issues. A code, and much research, are pointing toward needing a catalytic converter replacement.

Our goal this year for the Bill Koehn offering is $2,000. Please prayerfully and sacrificially give to support our Bill Koehn Mission Offering and help reach out locally for Christ.

His Eyes Are On The Sparrow
BY PASTOR CHAD CLEMENT
One of the conundrums of working with families living in poverty is how to have the greatest impact on an inherently transient community. I hate it when I see the house of one of the families we serve with all their possessions in a pile on the curb. It is a sure sign they have been evicted and more than likely moved to another part of town. It’s heartbreaking to build relationships with families only to watch them move away after a year or two. However, the bigger problem is what to preach to a hurting people group when your time together may be limited.

Dr. Steven Davey told a story of a military chaplain who was charged with training other chaplains to serve in battle. The chaplain would challenge his students to share their faith in under two minutes. He would tell them, “if you can’t do that, you’re making it too complicated.”

We try to keep it so simple that any child can understand the Gospel while also focusing on their long-term spiritual development. One strategy we have developed is to maintain a preaching calendar geared to the children and youth we serve. Each spring after Easter, we rotate through one of the Gospels until September so that any child who attends for one year will hear one of the Gospels preached entirely.

In the fall, we preach through a second New Testament book, and after the New year, we cover an Old Testament book. This winter, we preached through the book of Jeremiah. God’s commission to Jeremiah as a young man was to deliver a powerful, colorfully worded message of repentance to God’s people. In chapter after chapter, he calls them prostitutes, or lustful she-camels running around in heat, referring to their love of sin and idols.

After several weeks of sharing and explaining the inferno of God’s frustration with these sinful and idolatrous people, I began to ask God to confirm to me that He wanted me to continue soldiering on with this painful and challenging message of repentance. More and more, He began to show me that it was precisely what they needed to hear; it is exactly what the world needs to hear. Together, we were chipping away at the stony ground in all of our hearts.

The withering torrent of God’s anger with His people expressed through Jeremiah is our call today to be set apart from this sinful world. Turn away from false religion, turn away from the lusts of the flesh, turn away the world’s system of greed and self-indulgence so that we can shine with pure hearts for God’s Kingdom.

As a pastor who loves his people, I was excited to finally reach chapter twenty-nine this last Sunday. God sent a message of hope to His children in exile in Babylon; “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you,” declares the Lord.”

I told them how God promised to come and bring them home after seventy years, and He did exactly as He promised. Just like that promise, He has also promised to come back for us and bring us to a place where we will practice war no more, Jesus will be King, and we will be His people forever. So, as we head towards Easter, I look forward to sharing with them once again God’s greatest act of love towards us through the life and death of His Son Jesus and the good plans He has made for us as the object of His eternal love.

Dear FSBC,

During such a difficult time, your kindness meant so much.  Thank you for all your thoughtfulness and caring.  We really appreciated the flowers & the family meal.

We are so blessed to have such a loving church family.

The Bridenstine Family

============================================================

Hello FSBC family!

Thanks so much for the continued newsletters!!!  Chris and I will be praying for VBS, children, staff, and workers.  We know that God’s Spirit will be ever present there, and may those who hear the messages have softened hearts and minds to accept Him into their hearts and lives.  May those who already are a part of God’s family be strengthened and renewed in their love and spirit for Jesus Christ.  Thank you, Jesus, for ALL THOSE INVOLVED in this ministry and the future of the many lives impacted.

Thank you, church, for continued prayers.  Chris is on another round of antibiotics and strong steroids, but God has been SO BEYOND WONDERFUL TO US!!!  He continues to bless us daily and Chris is able to continually share his faith with those God places before him.  He has been able to reconnect with former students, which is always a blessing and joy.  We both continue to grow in the love and knowledge of Jesus, and have been delighted with the ability to bring “light” to others here in Wichita.

We love and miss you all.  May God give you all protection, healing, comfort, love and joy on your journeys in life as you share God’s message of hope, love and forgiveness.  Whether here on this earth or our permanent home, we are assured that WE WILL SEE YOU ONCE AGAIN.
