Cheap Grace

The sermon explored the dangerous doctrine of cheap grace, a term first coined by German pastor Dietrich Bonhoeffer in his 1937 work "The Cost of Discipleship," written in the shadow of Nazi Germany while the national church stood largely silent and complicit. Drawing from Romans 6:1-4, where Paul declares that those who have died to sin cannot simply go on living in it, and from 1 Corinthians 5:1-13, where Paul confronts a Corinthian church that had grown arrogant over flagrant, unrepentant sin in its midst, the sermon laid out a clear and sobering contrast: cheap grace flatters us on our way to spiritual death, while costly grace loves us enough to tell us the truth and call us to genuine transformation.
